The Prostate Program
illustration Risk Factors

The most common factors are age, family history, diet and ethnicity (African-American men are at highest risk). The incidence of prostate cancer increases as men get older. Upwards of 80% of men 80 years of age and older will have prostate cancer (based on autopsy study) while upwards of 30% of men in their 50’s will harbor an occult prostate malignancy. Only a minority of 50-year-old men will go on to develop a clinically detectable or significant form of prostate cancer.
